Retirement is not the same as expiry

Understand the distinction between earning a credential and retaining a historical qualification.

Two different questions

Retirement concerns whether new candidates can earn a credential. Expiry concerns how long an earned credential remains valid under its policy. Microsoft’s current policy says MCSA, MCSD, and MCSE certifications do not expire.

Read dated updates first

Microsoft’s March 26, 2020 update moved the remaining MCSA, MCSD, and MCSE exam retirements to January 31, 2021. Older text on the same announcement still mentions June 2020. That earlier date should not override the explicit update.

Describe what you earned

Use the full historical title and the year earned where helpful. Keep recent skills and project experience visible alongside it. Do not imply that a retired qualification establishes current expertise in a different platform.

Check before planning

Modern credentials have their own requirements and lifecycle. Follow the official credential page when considering an exam or renewal; a legacy qualification does not automatically convert into a new certification.
